The iRacing Weather System

iRacing’s all-new weather system hits the virtual track for 2024 Season 2! Take your sim racing experience to the next level with dynamic weather options that challenge drivers to run in any conditions, including rain and fog.
It’s racing in wet, the iRacing way.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

Our weather system simulates countless physical and environmental factors to create true-to-life weather experiences. Water interacts realistically with both the track and your tires, challenging you to find grip on alternate racing lines.

RADIO MESSAGES

Hear your spotter keep you up to date on changes in the weather to ensure that you’re making the right decisions on which tires to run.

AUDIO

To complete the immersive effect, you’ll hear rain interact with everything from car bodies and tire spray to grandstands and buildings.

RADAR AND FORECAST

See the current and expected weather conditions and make your plan accordingly. But remember, just like in the real world, Mother Nature can have a mind of her own—so things might change quickly, especially in longer races!

VISUAL EFFECTS

From falling rain drops and ripples, to puddles and reflections that show up on track, to spray off tires that impacts visibility and interacts with your windshield or visor, graphical enhancements interact with the weather system to offer a comprehensive visual experience.

SUPPORTED CONTENT

To be able to experience rain, a session must feature both an asphalt road course and a rain-enabled car. The following cars are currently enabled for rain:

HOW IT WORKS

In the iRacing UI, you’ll have multiple weather options to choose from before starting your session, whether you’re doing a single-car test drive or hosting a session with your friends.

STATIC WEATHER

This weather option keeps it nice and simple. Choose your cloud cover, track moisture, temperature, wind speed, humidity, and fog, or let us set them automatically based on historical data in the area. Note that you can create a wet track with static weather, but in order to have falling rain, you must use Forecasted Weather.

FORECASTED WEATHER

Go further into the details by adding a chance of rain and determining when to allow it. After you’ve edited your forecast, you can view the forecasted temperature, clouds, and precipitation. Don’t like what you see? Click the Regenerate button to get something different.

TIMELINE WEATHER

Map out your session (and even hours before it) down to the minute with our timeline editing tool. Add keyframes with the plus buttons and adjust their length with the sliders between them, then choose your temperature, wind speed, and wind direction before submitting your timeline.

IN-SIM INTERFACE

RADAR & FORECAST

The all new in-sim weather tab shows the current radar and a forecast for the next several hours so you can plan your race strategy accordingly. Pop out the radar box for up to date radar at a glance.

Using the driving screen weather black box, you can get a near future forecast and ask your spotter for an update on the conditions.
