Tanner Pettit takes second World of Outlaws Pro Series win in Sprint Cars at Lincoln Speedway
December 3rd, 2024 by Justin Melillo
Drama struck in the fourth round of 2024-25’s World of Outlaws Pro Series: Powered by iRacing season on Monday night at Lincoln Speedway. As always this season, the field was set by qualifying races the week prior to make the 35-car field for the main event. Utilizing the 410 Sprint Cars this week, James Edens looked to finally have his season turn around by inverting to the pole. Just past halfway, however, his race came unraveled, and it was Tanner Pettit scoring his second win on the year, becoming the first multi-time winner in the series so far this season.
If it was just a Sprint Cars championship, Pettit would be in consideration as a title threat, but he acknowledged the Late Models half of the schedule has been a challenge that he’s looking to keep improving upon. “It’s pretty hard, changing gears between the Late Models and the Sprint Cars,” Pettit mentioned. ” I think next week, we’ll give it another shot in the Late Models. We managed to make the Feature last week (at Williams Grove) which was good. In terms of the Sprint Cars, we’ve really just got things rolling over at Tanner Pettit Racing.”
QUALIFYING
Every week, the new wrinkle to the points format this season, which includes both Championship points and automatic transfers to the Feature from qualifying, plays a big part in how the Features stack up with track position as important as ever. As it will be all season long, the top-eight qualifying times every race will forgo all other pre-feature activities, including Heats and Last Chance races, and line up in reverse order at the front of the field of the Feature.
Aiden Forster, the defending iRacing World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion, set the quick time lap, which meant he would start eighth and collect 25 points for his efforts. James Edens pulled the lucky eighth position, which meant only 17 points but a transfer to the pole position for the Feature.
Lincoln Qualifying Top 8:
- Aiden Forster
- Ryan Avila
- JD Brown
- Dylan Yeager
- Tanner Pettit
- Kendal Tucker
- Logan Rumsey
- James Edens
HEATS
Everyone from ninth on back in qualifying were sorted into three Heat races of up to nine cars each. This season, only the top-three transfer to the Feature from the Heats, and everyone else is sent to fend for themselves in the Last Chance races. Shawn English took the win in Heat 1, Blake Matjoulis won Heat 2, and Adam Elby returned to take victory in Heat 3.
Heat 1 Transfers:
- Shawn English
- Ethan Johnson
- Nathan Van de Wakker
Heat 2 Transfers:
- Blake Matjoulis
- Chase Stewart
- Aiden Price
Heat 3 Transfers:

- Seth Gregory
- Landon Cardoza
LAST CHANCE RACES
The final four spots are set through the Last Chance races. Trey Mills once again found his way into the Feature by virtue of the Last Chance race, winning the first one over Nick Cooper. Ty Schobelock and Bowen Smith transferred in from the second and final race.
Last Chance 1 Transfers:
- Trey Mills

Last Chance 2 Transfers:

FEATURE RACE
Commonly in these Feature races this season, whoever establishes themselves at the early frontrunner goes on to take the crown for the night. The first race saw Logan Rumsey take it from Kendal Tucker, but other than that, both Tanner Pettit and JD Brown led the first lap and every lap afterwards.
It seemed as though that would be the case in Abbottstown, Pennsylvania again on Monday night. James Edens, who has struggled to find consistency all season, won the invert to the pole and pulled out to an early lead. A quick and early caution stacked the field back up again, but Edens once more managed to get away and maintain the gap back to Rumsey.
Just past halfway, Edens was catching extremely slow traffic in the form of Bowen Smith. Smith attempted to keep his Winged 410 Sprint Car as low as possible as Edens caught him, but bobbled into the wall and back up and into Edens’ path in the center of the corner. It didn’t kill the #52 of Edens, but it sent him to the back and out of contention.
Up front, Rumsey brought the field back to the green, but Pettit was immediately ready to strike back in second. The two toyed with one another for a corner, but entering Turn 3, Pettit sailed it on the bottom and cleared for the lead. Rumsey settled for second, while Ryan Avila rounded out the podium.
