Sandt Racking-Up Tour Modified Wins
February 23rd, 2011 by DavidP
The same driver, same state with a different track produced a similar story in the third week of online racing competition in the NASCAR iRacing Tour Modified series in 2011. Untamed Motorsports driver Robert Sandt poured the pressure on his fellow sim racers by capturing seven wins at the Richmond International Raceway and would be relentless as the tour headed to South Boston Speedway. Sandt, the fast qualifier for the week led the eighty-nine other drivers in the win column at “SoBo” as he put down five victories at the tight oval. Those five field toppers in eight starts would be good enough for the overall win for Week Three in 2011 Season One as he scored 162 points for the effort.
Ohio’s Shawn Colley made one start on the week which would stand for second overall. His second place finish on Saturday would garner him 159 points as he finished sandwiched on the podium in the highest strength of field (SOF, 2868) race between teammates Sandt and Herbert Engelhart. Eric Mauriello rounded out the top three for the week as he was the only other driver to notch multiple victories with two. His perfect week was accomplished in back-to-back races on Thursday as he bested Sandt and Richmond winner Ryan Field in the front end of the double header. Mauriello would come back strong two hours later as he found himself in victory lane over Engelhart and Wisniewski.
Also recording wins in Week Three were Field, Engelhart, Levi Poland and Division Two driver Dylan Casey. With his 100% winning percentage, Mauriello found himself atop the overall and Division One standings after three weeks of competition with 497 points – thirteen points more than Field. The two have established a noticeable gap between themselves and the bottom half of the top five. A twenty-five point gap is the difference between Field and third place Engelhart with the Mid-South club driver having eleven markers between himself and Sandt. Colley completes the top five with just a single point being the margin between he and fourth place in the overall standings.
Kevin Nelson sets the pace in Division Two after three weeks of racing. Nelson, along with Division Three’s Shawn Holbrook and Division Four’s C.J. Conneally possess double digit point leads early in the season. Chuck Carter has extended his lead to 76 in Division Five – the biggest when it comes to that category. Jonathan Dockery tops Division Six at the quarter distance mark of the season while Joe Gauthier continues to hold the lead in Division Seven. William Gray4, Robert Milsaps and Daniel Knight lead the Eighth, Ninth and Tenth divisions following the completion of three days of racing at South Boston.
Mauriello took the top spot when it comes to Time Trial competition at South Boston. Sandt and Mike Keistead rounded out the top three and that is also how they look overall after three weeks. Martin Brown, Brian Ciarlei, William Kabela, Jeff York, Corey Davis, Kurt Nutter, Donald Cushman, Chuck Shaw Jr. and Brandon Salvatore lead their respective Time Trial divisions following laps at the South Boston Speedway in Virginia.
Next week the stars of the NASCAR iRacing Tour Modified series head to the unique Concord Speedway. Can anyone stop Sandt’s stranglehold on the series as the Tour heads to their fourth stop of the season in North Carolina. Until then, keep the hammer down and we’ll see you at the track!
