September 22nd, 2011 by DavidP
Brandon Salvatore continued his march towards the 2011 Season Three NASCAR iRacing.com Tour Modified Series crown with a convincing win during Week Six at the South Boston Speedway. Salvatore brought home the checkers in the top split race of the week, besting some of the who’s who names in the Tour Modified sim racing community to inch closer to that prestigious crown.
Salvatore’s win in a 3449 sof race came on September 8th as he raced to the victory in 15 car field. The race featured five cautions and ended with only three cars on the lead lap. Shane Kline and Donny Moore finished on the same circuit as the leader with Mitch Miller and Brandon Munroe completing the top five. The field was so strong in this race that it topped all other races when it came to looking at the points as Salvatore (216), Kline (200), Moore (185) and Miller (169) each came out of this South Boston shootout with the top four spots in the point standings.
Completing the top five for the week was Kevin Walker. Walker finished the week with 168 points, which were obtained by finishing second to Salvatore in his only other start of the week. Salvatore led all but five laps in the 2877 sof race over Walker, Taylor Meyn, Shawn Bagby and David Chmura. The race featured two caution periods and saw four lead changes.
Paul Mepyans made eight starts during Week Six while Salvatore and Herb Engelhart shared the winners circle by winning two races apiece. Kyle Shipley, Jerold John, Glenn Sidman, Jeremy P Bogdanovitch, Ray Farlow, Caleb Shelton, Paul Wisniewski, Chmura, Brad Newman, Meyn, Rafael E Rodriguez, Christopher DeHarde and Moore each took home wins at South Boston. Robert “Bobby” Sandt laid down a lap of 14.145 second lap around “SoBo” to top the charts in qualifying over Salvatore, David Jaques, Shane Kline and Ray Farlow. Salvatore also took home top Time Trial honors over Timothy Heard, Kline, Jaques and Farlow.
Salvatore now takes a 172 point advantage at the halfway mark in the standings over John, 1140-968. Farlow, the Division Two runner up to Salvatore is third overall in the standings, just 16 points out of John with Engelhart and Meyn completing the top five overall after six weeks of competition. Brandon Munroe, Shawn Bagby, William Kidd, Timothy Finnegan, Leandro Reuter, Dave Rudd, Jeffrey Haddock and Thermon Shinholster Jr also lead their respective divisions, Three through Ten as the NASCAR iRacing.com Tour Modified Series crosses the halfway mark in 2011 Season Three.
