Roy, Dall’olmo Score iRacing Off-Road Wins at Bark River as Title Stage Sets for Crandon
August 4th, 2022 by Chris Leone
It was a pair of veterans of multiple iRacing pro series on top of the iRacing Off-Road Championship Series podium on Wednesday night, as Jim Beaver eSports’ Felix Roy and Altus Esports’ Killian Dall’olmo split the feature races in action from Bark River International Raceway presented by Big Green Egg. Roy, who has experience in both of iRacing’s World of Outlaws pro series, scored his second win of the campaign, while Dall’olmo, a veteran of iRacing Rallycross, earned his first. In addition, both points leader Connor Barry of Team General Tire and Factory Simsport driver Keaton Swane scored two top fives apiece to set up an all-out championship showdown for next week’s finale.
Barry would kick off the night by taking the Vision Wheel Pole Award in qualifying, but Black Star Racing’s Toni Lahteenmaki would lead the field to green after the eight-truck invert and take the Big Green Egg Green Flag Award for the first feature. But after four laps of pressure, Roy would finally find his way around the Finnish iRX veteran on Lap 5 and lead to the checkered flag from there, with Legion Speedsports driver Nicholas Dachelet completing the podium in third and Swane and Barry rounding out the top five.
In contrast, Dall’olmo would lead the second race from flag to flag, extending his advantage while Williams Esports’ Josh Fox, Barry, and Swane attempted to settle second place among them. Coming off of the blind, flying first corner on Lap 8, Fox and Barry would make contact, looping Fox and denying his bid for a second Bark River feature win in two events. Swane slid past as both trucks slowed to grab hold of second place, and Barry couldn’t get back ahead of him in the closing laps as he faced his own pressure from Dachelet for third. On the last lap, though, Roy would pressure Dachelet and sneak past him for fourth at the finish line.
CBR Hard Charger Awards from Bark River went to Nick Larson, who gained an event-best 10 spots in the first feature to place 12th, and Josh Edmundson and Tom Grady, who advanced seven spots apiece in the second to finish 7th and 13th. Edmundson’s award culminated a difficult night where he started second in the first race, had a first corner incident, and had to spend all night working his way through the field. In the Pro 4 All-Star races that kicked off the night, real-world pros Luke Knupp and Zachary Drapkin would again split the feature wins and take two podiums apiece, with newcomer Zach Knowles earning a podium in each race as well.
Wednesday’s results set up a thrilling conclusion to the season at Crandon International Raceway next week, with Barry and Swane coming in closely matched on momentum. Barry gained a point by outqualifying Swane, but lost four by finishing one spot behind him in each race; the duo are separated by 14 going into the finale. Roy, Dall’olmo, and Edmundson are also mathematically in contention as all three are within 105 points of the lead, but each would need Barry and Swane to miss the top 20 in both races to have a shot.
