Paint the Yellow will present the Prader-Willi Syndrome Charity Race on July 5th, 2012 televised live on ETV. The online race will run in the Chevrolet Silverado at the famed Talladega Superspeedway. A full month of activities are planned, including nearly 50 qualifying sessions over a three week period to lock in the fields for the Twin 50 races that will set the field for the main event.

Prader Willi-Syndrome is the most common known genetic cause of life-threatening obesity in children. Although the cause is complex it results from an abnormality on the 15th chromosome. It occurs in males and females equally and in all races. The syndrome causes low muscle tone, short stature, incomplete sexual development, and a chronic feeling of hunger. The food compulsion makes constant supervision necessary. About 1 in 10,000 kids are born with Prader-Willi Syndrome, but the disease is one that is not widely known.

Several members of Paint the Yellow formed the Prader-Willi Syndrome Charity Race to help raise money for the charity and to gain awareness. Ed Peoples is a valued member of Paint the Yellow and his daughter was born with Prader-Willi Syndrome.

“Raising money for this charity will be great, but the amount of awareness gained is going to be priceless.” — Ed Peoples

Peoples said, “I really want people to know about and to raise awareness about this disease. I didn’t even know what it was until my little girl was born with it.”

Practice severs launch Saturday, June 9th and will run throughout the peak time all the way up until the conclusion of qualifying on Saturday June 30. Also several “Fun” Practice Races will launch every afternoon and throughout each day on the weekends.

The race is open for any member of iRacing.com to join for a minimum $5 donation for the charity for each qualifying attempt. Qualifying sessions will run everyday starting Monday, June 11 through Saturday, June 30. The top 80 sim racers in overall qualifying speeds will transfer to the Twin 50 races on July 1. The top two qualifiers overall will be locked into the race and locked into their starting positions, with the overall pole sitter walking away with a $50 payout. The rest of the top 10 will be locked into the field, but will have to race for their starting positions in the Twin 50’s.

The Twin 50’s races are split with all odd position qualifiers in the first race and all even position qualifiers in the second race.  The Twin 50’s are 50 lap races with cautions and only a 9-gallon fuel tank. The top 15 finishers not already locked into the show will advance to the Main Event on July 5th. The winners of each Twin 50 will walk away with $25 each. All other drivers that did not make the show, including anyone that made a qualifying attempt will have one final opportunity to make the show in the Last Chance Race.

The Last Chance Race will run on July 3rd, any driver that made a qualifying attempt and not locked into the show can enter this race with a minimum $5 donation to the charity. The Last Chance Race is also a 50 lap race with cautions and only a 9-gallon fuel tank. The top two finishers will be locked into the Main Event, with the winner walking away with $25.

The Main Event will kick off on Thursday, July 5th at 8:00pm EST. The Main Event is a three race event, with two Heat Races and a Feature. The two Heat Races are 25 laps with no cautions and just over a 4.5-gallon fuel tank. The grid for the first heat is set by all of the qualifying events that led to this event. All lead lap cars in the first heat will be inverted for the start of the second heat. The finish order of the second heat will be the starting lineup of the Feature Race. The winners of each heat will walk away with a $20 payout.

The Feature Race is a 100 lap race with cautions and a 15-gallon fuel tank. $1,695 will be awarded in this race, with $500 going directly to the overall winner. Second place will bring home $200, with third earning $100.

“I couldn’t be more excited for this month of events. Raising money for this charity will be great, but the amount of awareness gained is going to be priceless.” Peoples said.
