Week Five of the NASCAR iRacing.com Class B Series found its way to the Valley of the Sun and Phoenix International Raceway in Avondale, Arizona.  95 laps would be the task for each driver to see who could master the mile flat track in the Arizona desert.  Following last week’s events at the Daytona International Speedway, teams and drivers were ready to move away from the restrictor plate racing and see who had the best setup and skill to claim the victory.

Some 550 iRacers traveled to the Valley of the Sun for Week Five of the NiCBS.

550 sim-racers took to the track for the fifth week of the season.  Ryan Luza would claim the most points for the week (332) during the Strength of Field (SOF) event on Friday night.  Luza bested Clayton Celovsky in the 5225-rated field, leading 85 of the 95 laps.  Timothy Vecchioni crossed the line in the third position, followed by Ashley Miller and Armando Vargas.

Clayton Celovsky earned 317 points for the week, the second most of any sim-racer.  Vecchioni was third with 303 points, followed by Miller (288) with Vargas rounded-out the top five for the week with 274 points.

Luza also topped the qualifying charts for the week with a lap time of 27.071 seconds.  155 sim-racers took times during the week, with Brenden Koehler sitting second with a 27.155 second lap time and Vargas third fastest with a lap around the mile oval at 27.175 seconds.

In other stats for the week, Chuck Sweeting started 24 events, twice the number of Don Canright’s dozen starts. A trio of drivers picked-up three wins for the week, Clayton Celvsky, Francis Dunnett and Mark Walz, leading the series.  Sweeting, with his 24 starts, would finish in the top five six times to lead the series as well.

Following the week’s events at PIR, Alex Scribner leads Miller in overall points for the series.  Scribner holds a 76 point lead over Miller heading into the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  Simon Crochart sits third, 109 markers out with Justin Kirby in fourth, 197 points out of first, while Luza completes the top five with 890 points and sits 232 markers out of the lead.

From PIR the NASCAR iRacing.com Class B Series heads to Sin City and Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the series’ second race on a mile and half oval.  Vegas will mark the halfway point of 2013 Season One as teams start to make their push for the series championship.  Can Scribner hold-off Miller and retain the points lead?  Can Luza keep the momentum from PIR going at LVMS?  Or will Crochart and Kirby make an impact at the diamond in the desert?  Find out next week only on inRacingNews.com.
