Logan Rumsey clinches 2024-25 World of Outlaws Pro Series title at The Dirt Track at Charlotte
January 28th, 2025 by Justin Melillo
One of the most unique top-level eSports series concluded on Monday night with a brand new race winner celebrating alongside a new world champion. The 2024-25 World of Outlaws Pro Series saw Logan Rumsey claim the crown by the end of the night, locking it up early in the evening after securing the quick time in qualifying. Meanwhile, in his first-career start in the series, Camden Johnston inverted to the pole after qualifying eighth and led the entire way to claim his first career victory.
Rumsey entered the night with a 78-point advantage over championship rival Kendal Tucker. By qualifying into the Feature through qualifying or a heat, Rumsey would clinch the title mathematically no matter what Tucker did. As it turned out, Rumsey scored the maximum amount of points in qualifying while Tucker failed to set a lap, which sealed it right then and there. Tucker’s night only got worse from there as Rumsey cruised home to another top-five and the championship.
“It’s huge,” Rumsey stated post-race. “I’ve been running this Pro Series for about four or five years, and I feel like last year, I was close to winning both championships. This year, with (the series) combining the cars, I definitely felt like I had a really good shot. I just had to put the time in. It was a long season, with a lot of laps. It was different this year, with a lot of races. It definitely wasn’t easy, but it was worth the time, I guess. That’s a lot of money for playing iRacing.”
The series was unique in the sense that there were no locked-in drivers on a week-to-week basis. Every week, the field was set by the results of the qualifying series the week prior, which meant double, triple, or perhaps quadruple the racing on a weekly basis. Rumsey was among the few to qualify every week. With taking the title, Rumsey pockets $10,000 on top of the money earned over the season for his three wins and a second place finish. Rumsey will be honored for his efforts at Volusia Speedway Park during the DIRTcar Nationals in February.
QUALIFYING
Rumsey did exactly what he needed to do to wrap up the 2024-25 series title immediately, putting his #41 Alpha Industries Super Late Model at the top of the board in qualifying. That earned Rumsey 25 points, making the points gap insurmountable for Tucker. The quick time inverted the champ back to start in eighth place, while Camden Johnston, making his first start, inverted to the pole after qualifying in eighth.

HEATS
Everyone outside the top-eight in qualifying were sent down to the heats. Dylan Yeager was able to score the win in the first one over Gabe Elkins. Former WoO and eNASCAR Pro, Kaden Honeycutt, returned for the finale after qualifying into the top-35 last week, and managed to transfer to the Feature by finishing third.
In the second heat, Ethan Johnson and Tanner Pettit were able to break away from the pack to finish first and second, transferring to the feature. Behind them, drama struck when Evan Seay and Bradley Cox collided, costing them both a shot to transfer in through the heat. Colton Jordan snuck through and into the third position to move on.
The third and final heat had potential championship implications as Kendal Tucker was forced to start shotgun on the field after not setting a lap in qualifying. Tucker moved up to fourth and made a huge move late to move into second. Unfortunately, the move was reciprocated the next time by, and it resulted in heavy contact, knocking Tucker back to fourth. Through nine races prior, Tucker had qualified for every feature and finished in the top-10. While his championship hopes were already over, his streak was still on the line, and was in jeopardy as he was forced into a Last Chance race. Hayden Tollison, JD Brown, and Cody Nevin finished in the transfer positions.

LAST CHANCE RACES
It went from bad to worse for Tucker in the first Last Chance race. Starting in second, Tucker was immediately swallowed up by the hungry pack behind. It only took a couple of laps, but after contact with Tyler Ducharme, his streak was over, as he retired from the event, missing the feature for the first time. Logan Hickerson was able to win, while Colton Zimmer was able to get around Aiden Bierlein for the second transfer from that race.
In the final Last Chance event, both Bradley Cox and Evan Seay found themselves entangled in battle. Seay pulled up and into second from last on the grid, but Cox was right ahead. Both were relatively safe to transfer, but Seay was determined. On the final lap, Seay pulled low and slid up alongside. The two drag raced to the line, and it was Seay over Cox by 0.001 seconds.

FEATURE RACE
The final feature of the season, a 50-lap battle, was relatively mild for a finale. Rumsey, having made it while Tucker did not, was racing to increase the money going into his pocket post-race. Ahead of him, Camden Johnston was in front for his first start, but he surely looked like he was meant to be there.
Perfect lap after another, Johnston pulled ahead over Conner New, who also won his first race earlier this season, as well as Caleb Durgan, who started fourth and was running solidly on the podium. Rumsey managed to get into the top-five, then fourth, and then began to stall out as he attempted to break into the top-three.
With four laps to go, the first and only caution of the night flew after Colton Zimmer went around following contact with Logan Hickerson while battling four wide in a hotly-contested battle for 13th. This re-racked the field for a final restart, and Johnston played it perfectly, pulling back out over New and Durgen to take the win. Rumsey brought it home in one piece, finishing fifth after Hayden Tollison made a late pass for fourth.
“I really hated to see that yellow come out,” Johnston said post-race. “We had a pretty big lead, and I was ready to just finish it off there. Towards the end, I was just kind of lost. I didn’t know where to run, Conner was reeling me in, my tires were shot. I was just trying to hold on, trying to fend off that first spot and bring home that win.”
