As the world of motorsport continues to grow, with more and more countries producing front-running drivers, Yevan David proudly flies the flag of Sri Lanka in his racing endeavors. 2024 was a year to remember for David, who not only became the first driver to win a major international single-seater event on behalf of his country with a Euroformula Open victory, but also made his return to the FIA Motorsport Games in Valencia.

David’s success in open-wheel cars comes after a long and successful career in karting, which he started at just six years old. With numerous victories in international events under his belt, he would make the move up to Formula 4 for the 2024 season, securing seats in the Spanish and UAE national championships with the esteemed Saintéloc Racing team.

In his move up to the first step on the FIA’s single-seat ladder, David relied on iRacing extensively to help him adapt. Many of the tracks on the Spanish F4 calendar, such as Portimao, Aragon, Jerez, and Barcelona, are all available on iRacing, and David practiced in all manner of conditions to give him an edge against the large fields.

“iRacing’s F4 car model has extremely helped me with preparation and practice for the real world,” said David. “It gives an amazing impression of the physics and track characteristics, meaning it gives a true representation of the feeling in the real world, which massively gives a driver an advantage to the others. Being able to drive the car in wet conditions around Grade A circuits provides me with confidence going into the real-world circuits as it prepares me very much for any track conditions.”

After completing his other F4 commitments, David would take a further step forward with a one-off debut in Euroformula Open at Monza. In his first event in the Dallara 320, the same chassis used in Super Formula Lights, David excelled as a guest driver, winning two of three races on the weekend and taking another podium in the third.

As a result, David came into the FIA Motorsport Games with plenty of momentum. Two years prior, he excelled in the karting category at the event, winning a silver medal. He was just as competitive throughout his F4 appearance, starting by scoring the pole for Saturday’s Qualifying Race and running in podium contention throughout Sunday’s medal race.

“It was an incredible feeling to carry the Sri Lankan flag at the FIA Motorsport Games and bring pride to the flag,” David continued. “Achieving the first ever pole position for Sri Lanka in the Motorsport Games was an amazing achievement. I could not be more proud of the country and how we’re flying the flag high on an international stage of motorsport. Huge thank you to all the supporters and the whole of Sri Lanka!”
