eNASCAR College iRacing Series Race Preview: Daytona
September 18th, 2023 by Chris Leone
The eNASCAR College iRacing Series Powered by NACE Starleague kicks off its 2023-24 campaign with its first round on Tuesday night, returning to Daytona International Speedway to open the new season. The race will stream live on Tuesday at 8PM ET on eNASCAR.com/live and across iRacing social media channels.
About the Series: The eNASCAR College iRacing Series gives college students from the United States and Canada the opportunity to compete for their share of $60,000 in scholarships. Using machines from the NASCAR Xfinity Series or NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, 40 drivers qualify for the event by registering here and posting their fastest lap times in a two-week Time Attack through the iRacing UI. With hundreds of colleges and universities represented in each Time Attack and only one representative per school, drivers are competing not only against the greater iRacing community, but also their own classmates, for a spot on the prestigious grid.
Last Season: Liam Sheen (University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point) survived a dramatic final lap at Daytona in April, using a bump from James Scioly (Eastern Washington) to charge past Garrett Lowe (University of North Carolina-Charlotte) coming off the final turn to take the checkered flag in the 60-lap race. Logan Clampitt (Saddleback University) would thus fall short of his bid for a perfect semester, having won the previous three races, but he’d nonetheless take the season title with a 10th place finish.
Track Info: Few racetracks in America carry the prestige of Daytona International Speedway. The high-banked 2.5-mile tri-oval hosted its first Daytona 500 in 1959 and has hosted the crown jewel race of the NASCAR Cup Series ever since. Its second race, the Coke Zero 400, now serves as the regular-season finale as Cup drivers look to earn their way into the playoffs. Far from a single-use facility, Daytona also hosts premier events for other series on its road course, such as IMSA’s Rolex 24 at Daytona each January.
