eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series Race Preview: Coca-Cola 150 at Charlotte
May 23rd, 2022 by Chris Leone
The eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series takes on its first of two back-to-back races over the next two weeks with the Coca-Cola 150, its annual visit to Charlotte Motor Speedway the week before Memorial Day. As always, race coverage begins at 9PM ET at eNASCAR.com/live and across iRacing social media channels, while Countdown to Green coverage will kick off at 8:30PM ET to preview the event.
Last Race: Garrett Lowe scored the long-awaited second victory of his eNASCAR career, as well as the first for the legendary Wood Brothers, by holding off Daytona race winner Femi Olatunbosun two weeks ago at Kansas Speedway. A caution-heavy battle of attrition collected multiple past series champions in various incidents along the way, and aggressive blocking by Graham Bowlin would lead to multiple cautions, the latter of which ended his own chances for the win.
Last Season: Malik Ray would gamble on an alternate strategy to go for the glory, but four-time series champion Ray Alfalla would get his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota to the winner’s circle in last May’s tilt from Charlotte. Unfortunately for Alfalla, with so many race winners last year and almost all of them ahead of him in points when the cutoff race came, Alfalla was one of a select few drivers whose checkered flag still wasn’t enough for them to punch an eNASCAR playoff ticket in 2021.
Track Facts: Charlotte Motor Speedway is one of NASCAR’s most storied facilities, and the home track for nearly every top-tier team in the sport. Opened in 1960, the track has hosted two NASCAR Cup Series points events each season, and was also the longtime home of the NASCAR All-Star Race. Its marquee race, the Coca-Cola 600, is stock car racing’s longest event, going from daylight to nighttime across its 400 scheduled laps each Memorial Day weekend. NASCAR Hall of Famers David Pearson, Jeff Gordon, Bobby Labonte, and Matt Kenseth each scored their first Cup victories in the Coca-Cola 600.
Next Race: Following Charlotte, the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series heads to World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway on Tuesday, May 31 at 9PM ET. The newest addition to the real-world NASCAR Cup Series schedule fills that same role in its virtual counterpart. It also serves as the halfway point of the full 18-race schedule, and the third and final event in the busiest four-week stretch of the entire season.
