Gustavo Ariel scores first win of 2025 in final PESC Feature

After seven events across the virtual racing world, Oracle Red Bull Sim Racing’s Cooper Webster scored the ultimate prize on Saturday afternoon, or in his case, early Sunday morning, as he went on to claim the 2025 Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup championship before the Feature race even had to be run.

The Australian came into the title fight 40 points up on Team Indian Racing Festival by APPL’s Jordan Caruso and 75 points over Team Indian Racing Festival by APPL’s Mitchell deJong. By the end of qualifying, deJong was eliminated when Webster placed second on the board, only losing out to his teammate and defending series champion, Sebastian Job. Caruso put it fourth on the board, but was stranded in a sea of Red Bull sponsored Porsches, with Team Redline’s Gustavo Ariel and Diogo Pinto third and fifth, respectively.

Webster needed to leave the Sprint with more than a 50 point lead over Caruso, which he did by winning the final Sprint race of the year. Caruso finished fifth, which extended the point lead to 53 entering the Feature. Even though a penalty could be obtained, and ultimately was by the new champion, Caruso’s only hope was to win and hope that Webster finished low in the order. The latter happened, as Webster was involved in an early wreck in the Feature, but even after penalties were assessed, Webster claimed the title by 14 points as Caruso could only get to third by the end of the final Feature, won by Gustavo Ariel.

Webster, in his fourth season competing in the Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup, had previously finished a best of fourth during the 2024 campaign, which was won by his direct teammate, Job. In the previous two seasons, Webster had finished 10th in 2023 and eighth in his rookie year, in 2022. In the seven year history of the series, Webster becomes the fifth different champion in series history, joining the two-timers, Joshua Rogers and Sebastian Job, and the other single-time champions of Diogo Pinto and his closest challenger this year, Jordan Caruso.

With Job scoring the final TAG Heuer Pole Award for the year, the sixth different driver in seven races, Caruso claims the 2025 TAG Heuer overall Pole Award, earning a Special Edition TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche watch. Webster, as the champion, earns a payday of $50,000 from the $200,000 purse.

PESC QUALIFYING:

As always, up to 85 points were available, like every other event in the Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup, with 25 points up for grabs in the Sprint race and 50 in the Feature. The other 10 can be won by winning the TAG Heuer Pole Award, with points distributed through the top-five in qualifying.

Sebastian Job claimed his first TAG Heuer Pole Award of the season, edging his teammate Cooper Webster for the top honors by nearly two-tenths. Jordan Caruso managed fourth, which was four points towards the total, but it would be a net loss of four points off the bat to Webster. Mitchell deJong needed to score at least two points and have Webster score no points in qualifying for his championship hopes to remain alive. The opposite happened, as he qualified 22nd, ending his chances immediately.

2025 Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup Top 5 Qualifying results from Le Mans were as follows:

  1. #1 Sebastian Job, 3:56.239 seconds (10 points)
  2. #37 Cooper Webster, -0.179 (8 points)
  3. #21 Gustavo Ariel, -0.244 (6 points)
  4. #12 Jordan Caruso, -0.273 (4 points)
  5. #44 Diogo C. Pinto, -0.410 (2 points)

PESC SPRINT RACE:

With the circuit of La Sarthe clocking in at 8.4-miles, the races would be short in lap count but still decently long as far as time was concerned, with each lap near the four-minute mark. Three laps would ultimately decide the championship, and they were a masterful three from the Oracle Red Bull Racing / Team Redline / Verstappen.com Racing group.

In the middle of the opening lap, Webster managed to slingshot around Job for the lead. And that’s exactly how they would parade for the entire three laps. Diogo Pinto moved up into third from the fifth starting spot as Gustavo Ariel held off Jordan Caruso for fourth.

Behind the lead draft of five cars, the lone Verstappen.com Racing driver, Florian Lebigre, was in the catbird seat to take the invert to the pole for the Feature. Alejandro Sánchez (Stormforce Gaming) and Luke McKeown (Apex Racing Team) ran sixth and seventh. Their teammate at the Apex Racing Team, Yohann Harth, was sixth on the start, but fell down to finish 10th by the end. This meant that Lebigre only needed to fend off William Chadwick (HYMO Setups), and was able to do so.

As Webster crossed the line unopposed, he was crowned the unofficial champion, now having enough points to claim the crown as long as he didn’t get any penalty points in the Feature.

PESC FEATURE RACE:

Of course, nothing is so simple in life, and on the start of the final Feature of the season, chaos erupted right around the champion-elect, as the Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup commentators Paul Smith and Arjuna Kankipati had titled Webster moments earlier.

Webster’s Porsche was injured, and now mired around 20th place. His car was a point of where the initial contact came from, with Chadwick making contact to his rear and Job spinning out on his nose. As the smoke settled, Caruso had managed to escape, and not only that, but escape into the lead position. If Webster had a mechanical meatball flag, his race would be over, but he would still be champion… unless the wreck was deemed to be on him, which could result in a points penalty.

Thankfully for Webster, he was able to continue and finish in 20th, collecting six points regardless of any potential penalty. With the championship now an afterthought, the focus shifted to who would claim the final Feature victory of the 2025 season.

Caruso was able to come around and lead one of the six laps, despite having no teammates up front to work with. He was again surrounded by Team Redline and Verstappen.com Racing drivers, as well as the Apex Racing Team / Stormforce Gaming duo of McKeown and Sánchez.

Through three and sometimes four-wide racing and passes, the final lap saw two Team Redline drivers—Gustavo Ariel and Diogo Pinto—out front and uncontested. Pinto went for the pass and got it earlier in the lap, but in the final passing opportunity, out of Arnage and just before the Porsche Curves, Ariel dove back underneath and claimed back the top spot to earn his first victory of the 2025 season.

PESC POST-RACE PENALTIES:

The new champion did almost give Caruso a chance by obtaining a penalty, but not for the opening lap chaos. Instead, Webster was docked five points for contact with Elliot Vayron (Kubina Racing) racing for 19th with two laps to go in the Feature. His net gain of a single point after the penalty ensured there would be no changes if Caruso had won. Carlos Fenollosa (Drago Racing) and Josh Thompson (Team Redline) were also given points penalties in the finale, which did not affect the top half of the standings at the end of the day.

  • #11 | Carlos Fenollosa | -10 point penalty
  • #37 | Cooper Webster | -5 point penalty
  • #43 | Josh Thompson | -10 point penalty

PESC ALL-STARS RECAP:

The final All-Stars event of the 2025 season, also at Le Mans, took on the challenge in the Porsche 963 GTP. With the new challenge of cold tires to contend with, many of the All-Stars gingerly gassed it on the opening lap of each race, some drivers getting bit by the lack of grip at the start.

In the Sprint race, Pablo “The Pulpo” Lopez found this out before the race even started, spinning out on the pace lap. Lopez was able to find the grip for the start, but in front of him, Pablo Vicente got to experience the lack of tire temperature and slid into the opening chicane, handing the lead over to Lopez. Behind them, Keny500 and Grizzle wound up retiring early from the first race after Keny500 looped it into Grizzle in Indianapolis. This just meant that both drivers would invert to the front for the final race of the All-Stars season. Lopez went on to take the win.

In the 20-minute clash, tensions were still high among Keny500 and Grizzle. Keny500 had the lead at the start, but Grizzle was able to line up and execute a solid pass for the lead, hanging on for the majority of the race. On the final lap, Keny500 tried to make a lunge at Indianapolis, the same place where they both crashed in the first race. Keny500 was able to keep the car underneath him this time, but still overshot it just enough for Grizzle to get back by and take his first win of 2025.
