The Ford Mustang FR500S embodies a rich racing heritage dating back to the days when Parnelli Jones, George Follmer and others drove Bud Moore-prepared Mustangs in hand-to-hand combat battle with Mark Donohue, Dan Gurney, Swede Savage, Sam Posey and other American icons in the original Trans-Am Series. Not for nothing was an entire class of sedans-come sports cars known as “pony cars.”
Developed for the Mustang Challenge series, the Mustang FR500S was the first race car built on a Ford production line and sold to the public. The FR500S boasts an aluminum 4.6 liter, V8, three-valve production engine rated at 325 bhp, together with a variety of Ford Racing performance parts, including a cold-air kit, high-capacity radiator, aerodynamic package and two-way adjustable dampers and springs, plus BFGoodrich g-Force R1 tires. The Mustang is equipped with a six speed Ford Racing Tremec T6060 transmission, clutch and short-throw shifter, as well as Ford Racing/Borla stainless steel headers. The FR500S features rack and pinion steering, Ford Racing/Brembo ABS brakes, two-way adjustable front dampers with coil springs, adjustable anti-roll bar and adjustable ride height.
