July 13th, 2011 by DavidP
Untamed Motorsports pulled into Phoenix International Raceway this past week fully prepared for Round Ten of 2011 Season Two of the NASCAR iRacing.com Tour Modified season. In the end, the team which focuses most of their time on the modified ranks on the online racing service came out with three of the top five spots with their team president taking the overall win.
Shane Kline’s victory in the July 9th, 2541 sof race put the veteran sim racer to the top of the board for Week Ten with 159 points. Kline led 64 of the 75 laps at the one mile track and won the event by two and a half seconds over teammate Paul Wisniewski. Jamie Collier was third with Untamed’s Jerold John in fourth, just in front of fifth place finisher Kevin Walker. The race ran green to checker without a yellow flag and featured two lead changes with John leading the other 11 circuits of the event. Wisniewski recorded 139 points for coming home as the runner-up to Kline, which would slot him into fifth overall for the week amongst 110 Tour Modified drivers at Phoenix.
Point leader Herb Engelhart continued his stride to the 2011 Season Two point championship this week by finishing second overall for the week. He scored those 156 points in a second place run to John in a 2698 sof race on July 5th. The race featured five leaders in a highly competitive race which saw John lead the last seven consecutive laps to seal the win. Engelhart was second followed by David Colley, Troy Talman and Derrick Cormier2. Australia’s Dylan Sharman led 49 laps of the race after starting from the pole but ended up disconnected from the race 20 laps away from the finish. Fifteen drivers started the event.
Third for the week was Levi Poland. The New England driver finished second to John in a 2473 sof race on July 9th. John led all but four laps in the race which saw just three yellows. Poland was second followed by Untamed Motorsports team owner Royce Valley. Cormier2 and C.J. Conneally completed the top five in the race. Poland captured 142 points for the second place effort in the race. Meanwhile, John would compete in eleven races this past week and win in eight, garnering 141 points for the week which placed him fourth overall.
John’s eleven starts and eight wins topped the charts as the most for the week. In fact, John will go down in the history books as the only multiple feature winner for the week at Phoenix as Cormier2, Colley, Daniel Valley, Engelhart and Kline each recorded single race wins. Kline was the top qualifier for the week with a 26.760 second lap around Phoenix. John, Sharman, Royce Valley and Jeremy P Bogdanovitch completed the top five while James Zimmerman was the quickest in the Time Trial sessions. Zimmerman nipped Kline with John, Sharman and Wisniewski in the top five. Wisniewski is closing in on the Time Trial championship but has James Yates close in tow.
John, who has stated previously that he does not point race when he straps into his virtual modified, finds himself second in the overall standings to Engelhart with just two weeks to go. John is 199 points out of the top spot while he sits just 74 points clear of Poland in third spot. Fourth spot belongs to Wisniewski, just ten points out of Poland for third. Taylor Meyn completes the top five spots with ten weeks in the books.
Brandon Salvatore holds a comfortable lead in Division Two while it is 70 markers between Dave Peterson and William Kabela in Division Three. Chuck Carter only has a twelve point advantage on Walt Garnett in Division Four while Ricky Boser takes a big lead into Week Eleven in Division Five. John Gablinske has a sizeable margin on his nearest competition on Division Six with James Hurtz holding the lead in Division Seven. Richard Jordan and Jeremy Williams are going to head down to the wire in Division Eight, Austin Grams is holding off Daniel Knight in Division Nine while Kevin Sockow looks to have Division Ten wrapped up with two weeks to go.
Next up on the schedule for the NASCAR iRacing Tour Modified is Week Eleven at Dover.
