FIA SIMAGIC F4 eSports Regional Tour Week 10 report: Vazquezz to the point in Europe; Rubilar, Woods maintaining respective regions

This September, the FIA SIMAGIC F4 eSports Global Championship Series arrives with 30 of the top-ranked regional competitors going against one another for a four-event, eight round season with a chance at winning a share of a $25,000 prize pool.

Week 10 saw the Americas region take on Sonoma Raceway, the Asia-Pacific region tackle Mount Panorama, and the Europe region navigate around Oschersleben. Most of the regions maintained their same top-10 from the end of Week 9, but with drop weeks factoring in, not everyone above the cut is safe just yet.

AMERICAS REGION

Many of the front runners opted out of running at Sonoma Raceway. Of the top-10, only the week winner, Leo Ovtcharov, picked up any points in comparison to the weeks prior. Ovtcharov won in both starts on the week, including the top split Strength of Field (SoF) race on Wednesday. Jeff Giassi, Jeffrey Decker, Felipe Cabrera Loyola, and overall points leader Nicolás Rubilar rounded out the top-five.

Both Cabrera and Rubilar had eight better weeks, however, and maintained their same total from Week 9. Giassi and Decker both closed in on the top-10, but have not broken in just yet. They may be the only two with a shot at this point to get ahead of Felipe Juliato or Leo Ovtcharov, depending on the participation and SoF for the remaining two weeks in the season. Only 456 iRacers participated in the Sonoma events, with Ovtcharov taking a share of 231 points for his top split win.

ASIA-PACIFIC REGION

The top eligible Asia-Pacific regional driver of the week was Alejandro Sendra from Japan. Sendra didn’t win the SoF race on Tuesday, but did finish second to Dries Van Langendonck from the Benelux club. Kody Deith, Marcello Rivera, and Hayata Asaga rounded out the top-five. Sendra did win a lower SoF race earlier in the week, and ultimately moves all the way up to second in the standings with two weeks to go.

He and everyone else continues to chase Damon Woods, who finished seventh on the week and bumps an earlier drop week to move from 1807 points to 1892. There were a few other changes around the top-10 as well, including the re-addition of Shoma Shintani, who moves from 11th up into the 10th and final spot. Shintani bumps Shota Nakaharu out, down to 12th with Deklan Webb now up to 11th. 995 iRacers took part in the Mount Panorama races, with Van Langendonck scoring 304 points in the top split SoF event.

EUROPE REGION

In the Europe region, the standings continue to shuffle as drivers begin to fill points in from missed drop weeks. One such driver was Gordon “Gordie” Mutch, who fell as low as 10th last week after a dominant start followed by some missed weeks. Mutch is now safely back inside the top-10 after winning the top split SoF race on Tuesday, collecting another 360 points. Mutch still has one more poor result to drop as well, so in reality, he’s got a good chance to fight for the title with top results in the final two weeks.

For the rest of the top-five on the week, it was Alejandro Sánchez in second, followed by Hugh Barter, Aaron Vazquezz, and Alex Dunne. For now, Vazquezz takes control of the overall standings, 66 points ahead of a gaggle of drivers led by Barter. Luke McKeown drops from first to fourth, while Martin Kadlečík officially moves into the top-10 at Dan Amor’s expense. A whopping 2,779 iRacers took part in the races at Oschersleben, and the region once again took control of the highest SoF of all three regions.

• Asia-Pacific (Every EVEN hour, :45 after): Winton Motor Raceway – Club Circuit
• Europe (Every EVEN hour, :15 after): Donington Park Racing Circuit – Grand Prix
