Thursday saw Justin Wilson capture the first of what he hopes will be two wins at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend.  Wilson bested a fast field (including Dreyer & Reinbold teammates Mike Conway and Tomas Scheckter)  to win a special ten lap sprint race – known as the Indy 25 — featuring Dallara Indy cars.  The event saw the real world Indy car drivers sim racing from the press room at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway against more than two dozen other competitors who were racing online from California to Boston, Canada to England and Europe.

Wilson jumped to the early lead and came home 2.5s ahead of John Prather who edged Tim Holgate for second spot.  Conway and Scheckter?  They DNF’d after after they got together on Lap Five, precipitating a huge, multi-car incident.

“It was good fun,” said Wilson, in between sips of milk as he honored a long-standing Indy 500 tradition.  “I thought I’d done a really good job until I saw the replay and realized Mike and Tomas had taken-out half the field.  I want to thank them for their efforts!  That was very selfless teamwork on their behalf.

“Seriously, I do want to thank Tim Holgate for sharing his set-up with us.  They were very helpful.”

While several dozen reporters and photographers clustered around Conway, Scheckter and Wilson, the race was also televised throughout the pressroom on IMS closed circuit television system.
