eNASCAR IGNITE Weekly: July 18, 2019
July 18th, 2019 by Chris Leone
For eight weeks, the top youth drivers on iRacing will battle it out in Legends cars for a chance to make the eNASCAR IGNITE Series playoffs. Taking on a mix of the top short ovals and road courses on the service, only 50 will have a chance to move on to the playoffs and compete for a $10,000 racing scholarship! Check in every Thursday for a look at this week’s eNASCAR IGNITE Series event:
This Week: The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
The Bullring may not be a new addition to the IGNITE schedule for 2019, but it is a challenge that this year’s drivers haven’t yet seen. The .375-mile banked oval marks a return to the short oval format that dominated the early stages of the season, forcing drivers to focus on what worked well at places like South Boston Speedway and Southern National Motorsports Park.
Andy Trupiano, one of this year’s IGNITE championship favorites, was best in class here last year. Trupiano scored two wins and two poles in three starts in 2018, topping the 100 drivers who competed. His opponents were no slouches, either: they included current eNASCAR PEAK Antifreeze iRacing Series standouts Zack Novak and Garrett Lowe, and 2019 IGNITE front-runners Aaron Mulrooney and Dylan Ault.
Last Week: Lucas Oil Raceway
Lucas Oil Raceway presents a unique challenge for any drivers who visit, and last week was no exception for the IGNITE competition. At just over half a mile, it’s one of the longer ovals that the series visits in the regular season, and boasts a unique character that commands respect from every driver that dares to challenge it.
Parker Retzlaff was the only driver to score multiple wins last week, but in the end, Aaron Mulrooney was the top point-scorer with 164 in his victory. That win enabled him to take over the points lead from Andy Trupiano, who scored 142. Mulrooney now has 670 points and Trupiano sits third with 659, with Cayden Rush’s 666 currently splitting them in the standings.
