Australian racer Tim Ryan won the World of Outlaws Sprint Car iRacing Championship and takes home $4,450 for the championship and weekly purses throughout the season. With four wins, five top five’s and an average finish of sixth, Ryan edged second place finisher Alex Bergeron by just four points at seasons end.

The inaugural season of the series featured virtual 410 Sprint cars on America’s top dirt tracks in 12, action packed rounds. Utilizing iRacing’s popular heat racing feature, the world’s best virtual dirt sprint car drivers battled from May through October for the more than $16,000 in total cash payouts.

iRacing is the world’s premier online eSports racing game that organizes and hosts two World of Outlaws Championship series, Late Model and Sprint Car, where the best online dirt racers compete to be crowned world champion and for a prize pool of over $32,000. Seventeen of the 35 drivers in the series won cash prizes.

“The iRacing World of Outlaws Sprint cars are unbelievably realistic, and a whole lot of fun to race,” said Christopher Bell, dirt sprint car and NASCAR driver. “I’ve been racing the virtual Sprint Cars since they were released on iRacing and know just how good Tim (Ryan) is. To be that fast, and that consistent is really impressive.”

“It was a great first season for the series with action packed racing every week,” said Tony Gardner, president iRacing.com. “Having our inaugural champion from Australia really shows the worldwide appeal of both iRacing and World of Outlaws Sprint car racing. We have over 73,000 members from more than 150 countries so it is fitting that we have a champion from Australia.”

“What an exciting season of Sprint car racing,” added World of Outlaws CMO Ben Geisler. “As with the World of Outlaws Late Model iRacing Series, we were impressed with the racing each and every week. When a championship is decided by only four points you know it’s a competitive series.”

The World of Outlaws Sprint Car iRacing Championship Series was the third of six world championship series that iRacing sanctions to come to a conclusion. All told, iRacing will be paying more than $100,000 in prizes to their eSport racing champions in 2018.
