iRacing to Add Dirt Oval Racing
April 1st, 2016 by David Phillips
iRacing.com today announced plans to add dirt surface race tracks and cars to its popular online motorsports simulation service. The world’s leading centralized racing game platform, iRacing enables sim racers to compete in more than 50 different digital race cars on laser-scanned replicas of the world’s most renowned racing circuits, including every track on the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule as well as legendary road courses such as Road America, Interlagos, Spa-Francorchamps, Monza, Bathurst and the Nürburgring.
In 2015, iRacing introduced a revolutionary dynamic track feature which enables its digital track surfaces to constantly evolve during the course of races based on changing weather conditions and the amount of virtual rubber laid down by competitors. The development of dirt track surfaces is the next step for iRacing, according to Steve Myers, iRacing.com’s Executive Vice President and Executive Producer.

“We are starting a new chapter in our long history and expanding into a new branch of motorsport – dirt,” says Myers. “With the evolution of our new surface model the next natural step was to develop a dirt surface model and dirt race cars.

“We are working closely the University of Northwestern Ohio and Clint Bowyer Racing (CBR) to create virtual dirt surfaces that match the fidelity of iRacing’s paved tracks, along with a digital version of CBR’s PEAK/Crawford Supply BWRC late model. Speaking for everyone at iRacing, I’m really excited about this project, and I’m very optimistic that we’ll be launching it this year.”
iRacing.com goes to extra-ordinary lengths to simulate real racing for its enthusiastic customer base across a wide range of motorsport from stock and sports cars to open wheel, sedan and showroom stock racing. iRacing is home to hundreds of private leagues as well as dozens of official series, many run in partnership with the world’s foremost professional racing organizations including NASCAR, INDYCAR, IMSA, SRO Blancpain and the V8 Supercar series.
