Florida to New Hampshire
July 16th, 2014 by Jaime Baker
After spending Week Nine in the Bluegrass State, the NASCAR iRacing Class A Fixed Series headed to two very unique venues for weeks 10 and 11 of the series. Week 10 brought the series to the world famous Daytona International Speedway, a 2.5-mile superspeedway with 31-degree banking, while Week 11 brings the drivers to the flat, 1-mile New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Nearly 1,700 sim racers competed in at least one event during the two weeks of racing, which made this two week stretch one of the most popular throughout the season.
Daytona (Top Strength of Field)
As the old saying goes, “it’s not where you start, it’s where you finish.” That statement was held deep in Lee Herron’s (Carolina) mind as he started the 35 lap event in the 16th position. Not only did Herron start deep in the field, he was also very quick to find his way to the front as he led the most laps in the event (21) and went on to claim the victory beating NASCAR iRacing Pro Series competitor Brandon Chubirko (Carolina). The final spot on the podium was filled by California native Drake Alvarado. Alvarado started from the 11th position and worked his way into the top three by the fall of the checkered flag. The remaining positions in the top five were occupied by Blake Reynolds (Texas) and Gerald Segarra (France). The 3816 strength of field was slowed three times for caution for a total of 12 laps and saw three lead changes among three drivers.
New Hampshire (Top Strength of Field)
In dominating fashion, Allen Boes (Ohio) took the checkered flag first after leading 30 of the event’s 55 laps, besting Kollin Keister (Atlantic) by just four hundredths of a second. The remaining positions in the top five were held down by Blake Bryant (Carolina), Doy Woods (Georgia), and Joshua Hanner (Georgia). The 3576 strength of field was slowed six times for caution for a total of 23 laps and saw five lead changes among four drivers.
Daytona (Weekly Standings)
With the victory in the week’s top strength of field event, Herron was able to earn 241 championship points for his efforts during the week. Chubirko’s efforts during the event earned him 228 points. Corey Hefley (Plains) made seven starts during the week, three of which resulted in trips to victory lane and the accumulation of 227 points. The final two spots in the top five were filled by Ronnie Potts (Ohio) and Dylan Murcott (New York) who earned 226 and 224 points, respectively.
New Hampshire (Weekly Standings)
After earning the victory in the week’s top strength of field event, Boes also netted the most championship points for the week with 224. Keister’s strong run in the event was good enough to earn 210 points for the week, just 14 shy of the top spot. Bryant made four starts during the week, taking the victory in one and recording 197 points. The final two spots in the weekly standings were occupied by Jordan Werth (Florida) and Woods, earning 191 and 184 points, respectively.
