Boldrin and Leonetti Conquer the Draft

The iRNC invaded Charlotte for Week 3 of 2013 Season 2.

The inRacing News Challenge multi-class series headed into NASCAR territory for some classic draft racing at Charlotte, North Carolina in Week Three.  Charlotte Motor Speedway’s 2.25 mile road layout is the closest road racers will get to oval racing as running in packs is not only encouraged but required.

Last week at Summit Point new names moved up the leader board as several iRNC regulars disappeared and this week is no different.  In the Solstice series a new name took top honors while in Mazda there is a new overall leader.

Ilham Halabi (Asia) started the week off with a quick lap of 1:21.442 which was second best for the week.  He raced five times at Charlotte winning three and averaged 138 points which is also second place this week.  Halabi is still the overall point leader with a comfortable 92 point advantage.  The top spot this week goes to Dujon Boldrin (Brazil) as he remains perfect for the season winning all races entered and all laps led.  This week Boldrin qualified seventh overall, won his only online race with the highest point total of 182 and now is second in the overall standings behind Halabi.  Chris Hughson (New York) qualified eighth this week, won eleven of twelve races, averaged 128 points and currently sits third in the overall standings, 111 points behind Halabi.

Last season Lorenzo Leonetti (Italy) made a late charge but came up a few points short in the Mazda championship.  This year Leonetti’s red hot start in Mazda continues as he qualified second with a 1:21.913, won a huge race which paid 146 points and now is the overall point leader.  Second-placed Petr Dolezal (Central-Eastern Europe), with two consecutive Mazda titles to his credit, finds himself in unfamiliar territory but is only two points behind Leonetti overall.  Dolezal qualified number one this week with 1:21.710 and raced twice for a 114 point average at Charlotte.  Joe Pisciotta Jr (Florida) won seven of eight races and a 174 point win at Charlotte moved him up two spots to third in the overall standings.

In Time Trial Stephane Morien (Canada) averaged 1:23.657 in his Mazda and collected 100 points while John Newton (UK&I) ran 1:24.082 for second place and Juan Rodriguez (Florida) rounded-out the top three with a 1:24.210 average around Charlotte.

Notables: William Disdale (UK&I) had five wins in seven starts, averaged 128 points, and finished fifth for the week to take fourth in the standings.  Kyle Young (New York) posted a perfect week with eight wins in eight starts, leading 85% which is sixth for the week and he is currently seventh in the overall standings.
