Iowa Speedway located in Newton, Iowa hosted Week Five of the shortened NASCAR iRacing.com Class A Series (NiCAS) season. Despite being just short of one mile in length, the Gen6 stockcars blister around the moonlit D shaped oval. The track designed by NASCAR legend Rusty Wallace offers a lot of unique characteristics for drivers and teams to attempt to get a grip on, all the while trying to solidify their spot in the NASCAR iRacing.com Pro Series (NiPS).

Landon Huffman is a newcomer to the NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Championship (NiSWC) but he is no rookie to the NiCAS, as he took top honors in Iowa with 358 points. The Limited Late Model driver from Claremont, North Carolina led twenty three laps en route to winning the 5622 SoF Sunday night race. Fellow NiSWC competitor Joey Brown dominated the race, leading 62 laps but had to settle for a sixth place finish. Lee Herron finished off an impressive week with a second place finish, while Dylan Duval tallied yet another top three finish to round out the podium.

Tight racing under the lights in Iowa for NiCAS Week Five

In a near equal strength of field on Thursday night, NiSWC veteran Joshua Laughton dominated the predominately Class A licensed field to take the 355 point win. Laughton led 108 of the 125 laps in a race that was never in much doubt for the top licensed sim racer. Brandon Atkinson represented the Carolina Club well with a 341 point second place performance, with the only other NiSWC driver in the field Paul Kusheba filling in the top three. Brad Mahar had a stout run and snagged 315 points for his fourth place effort, while Lee Herron was the final driver over 300 points with 302 in fifth.

Jim J Robinson led the way in starts under the stars in Iowa, taking the green flag fourteen times on the week. Despite not being able to break through into victory lane, Robinson had a solid week scoring a top five in nearly half of his starts. Paul Burthwick and Chuck Earnest were hot on the heels of Robinson with thirteen starts, while Dave Kulis was the final driver who participated in ten or more races on the week. One slot over in the stat column was a boatload of drivers tied for the most wins on the week with two.

Next up for the NiCAS is a trip to Ridgeway, Virginia for 150 laps around the paper clip shaped Martinsville Speedway. Since 1947 Martinsville has been hosting top level short track racing, creating priceless memories for every generation of NASCAR fan. While fans love the tight confines Martinsville has to offer, if takes a special type of driver to master the driving style needed to run well at the ancient speedway. Next week will be the first opportunity for drivers to take the Gen6 Fusion/SS for a spin around the short track, and there are sure to be wrinkled fenders when the dust settles. Be sure to check back at inRacingNews.com next week for a full recap of Week Six at Martinsville.
