Schoenburg Continues PIR Success
November 16th, 2012 by In Racing News
With the NASCAR iRacing.com Pro Series (NiPS) headed to Phoenix International Speedway for Week Three of their season, the NASCAR iRacing.com Class A Series (NiCAS) served as a tune up for many top level drivers a week before the big race. With the aging PIR surface it often takes a cagey veteran to maintain enough right rear tire to be successful on the long run, and this week lived up to form.
It was Brian Schoenburg who came away with a huge win and 380 big points to put him at the top of the pylon for Week Two. Schoenburg won in style leading 101 of the 110 laps from the pole, and managed to stay ahead of the always challenging Kenny Humpe. NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Championship (NiSWC) driver Jason Karlavige rounded out the podium, while Kevin King and eventual NiPS race winner Chad J Laughton finished out the top five.
A staggering amount of points were handed out at PIR, with six drivers topping the 300 point mark, and 26 drivers kicking in the door to 200 points. However the top level drivers continued their dominance as NiPS and above rated drivers filled in nine of the top eleven spots on the week. If history repeats itself, this is a bad sign for Class A hopefuls who will need to step up their game if they plan on making a trip to the winner’s circle.
There were a few very active drivers this week, being led by Howard Bell with fourteen starts at the tricky one mile track. Bell was unable to find victory lane, but did manage a top five in nearly half his starts. Scott Austin and James Robinson were the only other drivers with over ten starts on the week, each with thirteen. Unfortunately the high number of starts were unfriendly to them as well as neither found victory lane.
The NiCAS continues to follow the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule as the series heads to Homestead Miami Speedway for 110 laps around the unique 1.5 mile speedway. Homestead offers many different grooves for drivers to choose from, but most will run about a lane and a half from the white line. Although no champion will be crowned, the racing will be just as intense as some drivers try to keep momentum rolling, while others try to correct a slow start. All that and more will be covered here on inRacingNews.com, next week.
