Coleman Claims Daytona
August 17th, 2012 by In Racing News
As if a trip to the famed Daytona International Speedway was not enough motivation for NASCAR iRacing.com Class A Series (NiCAS) drivers to take to the track, being only Week Two of a twelve week season, this serves as a great chance to get the season started off well. Not all would be so fortunate as “The Big One” would claim many Impalas before they saw the checkered flag. While this was bad news for some, it provided thrilling races and surprise winners all week long.
No surprises at the top this week as NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Championship (NiSWC) driver Chad Coleman put his stamp on the week, collecting 354 points. Coleman is always a favorite at resticter plate tracks, and he once again proved he can get it done at the home of stock car racing. Kenneth O’Keefe put in a solid week as the former NASCAR iRacing.com Pro Series (NiPS) driver could be gearing up to make a charge once again. Rounding out the top three on the week was Tyler Hudson, with another solid 341 point effort.
As always at Daytona, the turnouts were unbelievable as 1089 drivers took to the high banks in hopes of claiming a win at the historic stopping grounds. Two drivers tied for the most trips to victory lane with seven, both Fabian de Jong and Joey Schmidt of Benelux proved they knew how to get it done while Mike R Johnson was the first American on the board with five wins. John Sanna, Schmidt, and Johnson were the only three drivers to start more than thirty races, with the most going to Sanna who had a disappointing zero wins in his thirty three starts.
Now two weeks into the season, the theme has been NiPS and NiSWC drivers having their way with NiPS hopefuls. As in the last two NiCAS seasons, the top ten Class A licensed drivers will be promoted to the NiPS at season’s end, but thus far into the season no one has stepped up and made a statement much like Cody byus and Joshua B Gerrald made last season. In week three we will look to see if the top rated drivers continue their tear, or if a Class A license holder can step up and take command of this points battle.
From one favorite amongst the drivers to another, as the haulers head northwest as the series shifts to Michigan International Speedway. MIS races extremely well in the iRacing.com simulations, allowing drivers to be aggressive with three, and sometimes four, wide passes all the while nearing 210mph into turn one. As always be sure to check back at inRacingNews for a full week recap including the big winners, and most active competitors.
