iRacer Profile – Adam Gilliland
April 21st, 2012 by DavidP
Adam Gilliland is in a hurry . . . on the virtual race tracks of iRacing.com where he can usually be found out front or battling for the lead, or in a sim racing career he is anxious to take to the next level. How else to describe a driver who, at age 16, ranks his greatest disappointment in sim racing as falling just short of qualifying for the NASCAR iRacing.com Pro Series?
The young Texan has rebounded rather nicely from that set-back, and currently finds himself ensconced in fourth place in both the NASCAR iRacing.com Class A Series and the Class C Series (Fixed Setup). Gilliland may not be totally happy with a pair of fourth places – they are, after all, three spots shy of his goal. But when you consider he placed 15th in the 2011 Season 4 Class C (Fixed) standings (one better than a guy named Scott Speed) and P14 in the 2011 Season 3 Class A standings, you’ve got to like the way things are trending . . .
Q: How long have you been sim racing?
A: I have been Sim Racing since 2009. That’s when I first started doing what I consider sim racing; before that the only real thing I had tried with racing was EA Nascar Games.
Q: What attracted you to iRacing?
A: What originally attracted me to iRacing was the realism from the videos I had seen on youtube and from what friends had told me.

Q: What would you change about iRacing?
A: iRacing really has a couple things I would like to see added, not really changed . . . except for maybe the tire. I would like to see a tire similar to real life where there is separation between the cars over a long run.
Q: How many hours a week do you spend on iRacing?
A: I spend 2-3 hours practicing for Class A and probably total (with racing and practicing) 8 hours a week.
Q: Tell us about the paint schemes on your helmet/car(s).
A: I am currently sponsored by GSRacing.net on the Cup Side for my journey to make pro. On my truck side I am not currently sponsored. I like to run Alpinestars as a primary sponsor as I use a lot of their products and I like the logo.
Q: What other sim racing activities (Forza, Gran Turismo, etc.) do you do?
A: I run NR2003 league races with friends occasionally.

“My desire to be competitive and have fun is not only something only I like to do, it’s the desire that thousands of sim racers have worldwide.”
Q: What is the iRacing moment you’d love to forget?
A: The iRacing memory I would most like to forget was finishing 13th in the 2011 Season 3 class A points, and missing Pro by 6 points.
Q: What car/track would you like to see iRacing add to the service?
A: The car I would most like to see added would probably have to be a shifter kart and the track(s) I would like to see added would be Kansas and Rockingham.
